Algae Pool Treatment: Quick tips
Algae pool treatments are necessary to correct or prevent the growth of algae in a swimming pool. Everyone’s pool is prone to develop this from the weather or different water conditions. Algae is a living organism that thrives in warm conditions. It is important to take care of a pool’s filtration and sanitation to stop it from taking over.
There are many forms of algae. They cloud the water and may clog the filter while leaching valuable nutrients. When a pool is scrubbed clean and the proper chemicals and algaecides are in balance, algae will not live.
There are many different chemicals that help treat it. Potassium Tetraborate prevents it from changing carbon dioxide into the things that make it grow. Chitin is a coagulant sanitizer that allows for the removal of any water impurities. The sanitizer will then be more effective at killing all contaminants. Filtration is also improved. There are also common algaecides that are used in pools to. These include Polymers, Quaternary Ammonium Compounds, and Copper and Silver based products.
When algae takes over, a person must be prepared to totally eradicate it. The first step is to balance the water’s PH. Next, the filter must be checked, cleaned and ran for an entire day until the water becomes clear. If suspended or climbing forms are present, the pool must be shocked. Add hypochlorite until the water turns cloudy. The walls and floor should be brushed, then the water should be backwashed. When the level of chlorine is below 5 ppm, the algaecide should be added and the vessel should be scrubbed. After the debris settles, the pool should be vacuumed and rebalanced.
When the black form of algae is present, a brush is essential. The layers must be broken to allow the chemicals to kill from the inside. Granules or sticks made from trichlor are effective. Then adding polymers or copper algaecide should kill it completely.
When a person experiences algae for a prolonged period of time, the entire pool may need to be drained. It is then wise to pressure wash the walls. Filters should be changed on a regular basis. Prevention is much easier than the aggravation associated with algae treatment.
